You've Got To LOVE Salty Bags

Haven't you seen them yet?!

Well, Salty Bags seem to be the talk of the town this summer,

and how could it be otherwise?

The idea is simple, yet so original!

Four good friends decided to start collecting discarded and retired sails and recycle them into carefully designed, long-lasting bags. Stratis Andreadis, Panos Varouhas, Spyros Daikos and Chrysa Halikiopoulou, had this great recycling idea. They gathered all sails they could possibly find and started making bags (with the exact same tools needed to sew or repair sails). Every bag arrives at the door of its new owner with a booklet inside. And therein lies its life story as a sail. Which boat did it once belong to? When was the boat retired?And do note, that these friends will donate part of the profits to Hellenic Sailing teams, to support their participation to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

The even coolest part? These bags are designed and made in Greece, here, in Corfu! Panos is a really good friend of mine since... forever, so I'm acting like a proud mother goose here! Just Google "Salty Bags" and you'll see. They are EVERYWHERE!!! Not to mention newspapers, magazines and tv news!

Ε, λοιπόν οι Salty Bags φαίνεται ότι είναι η είδηση του φετινού καλοκαιριού,

και πώς θα μπορούσε να ήταν αλλιώς;

Η ιδεά είναι απλή , αλλά τόσο πρωτότυπη!

4 καλοί φίλοι αποφάσισαν να ξεκινήσουν να μαζεύουν πεταμένα και παροπλισμένα πανιά ιστιοφόρων και ιστιοπλοϊκών και να τα ανακυκλώνουν μετατρέποντάς τα σε προσεκτικά σχεδιασμένες και ανθεκτικές τσάντες. Ο Στρατής ανδρεάδης, ο Πάνος Βαρούχας, ο Σπύρος Ντάικος και η Χρύσα Χαλικιόπουλου, είχαν αυτή την ωραία ιδέα ανακύκλωσης. Μάζεψαν όσα περισσότερα πανιά μπορούσαν να βρουν και ξεκίνησαν να φτιάχνουν τσάντες (ακριβώς με τα ίδια εργαλεία και τεχνικές που χρησιμοποιούνται για να ράβουν και να επιδιορθώνουν τα πανιά). Κάθε τσάντα φτάνει στην πόρτα του ιδιοκτήτη της μαζί με ένα ενημερωτικό βιβλιαράκι, όπου μέσα αναφέρεται όλη η προηγούμενη ζωή της ως πανί. Σε ποιό σκάφος ανήκε, πότε αποσύρθηκε κ.τ.λ. Και αξίζει να σημειωθεί βέβαια ότι τα παιδιά θα δωρίσουν μέρος των εσόδων από τις πωλήσεις τους για να στηριχθεί η συμμετοχή Ελλήνων Ιστιοπλόων στους Ολυμπιακούς Αγώνες του Ρίο το 2016.

Το ακόμα καλύτερο κομμάτι; Αυτές οι τσάντες σχεδιάζονται και φτιάχνονται στην Ελλάδα, εδώ, στην Κέρκυρα! Ο Πάνος είναι πολύ καλός μου φίλος εδώ και... αιώνες, γι'αυτό νιώθω τόσο περήφανη σαν μαμά κουκουβάγια! Απλά γράψτε στο Google "Salty Bags" και θα δείτε. Είναι ΠΑΝΤΟΥ!!! Για να μην αναφέρω εφημερίδες, περιοδικά και ρεπορτάζ ειδήσεων!

So, yesterday my bo-boy bought his first Salty Bag and

I got even more excited than he did.

The packaging is A-MA-ZING!!!

Just a simple carton box but so well designed.

Έτσι λοιπόν χθες ο καλός μου αγόρασε την πρώτη του Salty Bag και

εγώ ενθουσιάστηκα περισσότερο από αυτόν.

Η συσκευασία είναι Α-ΠΙ-ΣΤΕΥΤΗ!!!

Ένα απλό χαρτοκιβώτιο αλλά τόσο καλά σχεδιασμένο.

We got the Vai but there are also many different options.

Η δικιά μας είναι το Βάι αλλά υπάρχουν αρκετές διαφορετικές επιλογές.

 It's perfect with all its imperfections.

Είναι τέλεια με όλες τις ατέλειές της.

As I mentioned above, each bag comes with a special booklet about the history of the bag, from where it came from, where it has travelled e.t.c. Ours comes from a 25 years old sail that once belonged to a yacht named Atalanti III and it has travelled over 2000 nm. Also the caring instructions are so funny!  "...if nothing else works ask a mom".

Όπως ανέφερα και παραπάνω, κάθε τσάντα έρχεται με ένα ειδικό βιβλιαράκι που αναφέρει την ιστορία της τσάντας, από που προήλθε το πανί της, πού ταξίδεψε κ.τ.λ. Η δικιά μας κατασκευάστηκε από ένα πανί 25 χρονών που ανήκε στο σκάφος Αταλάντη ΙΙΙ και έχει ταξιδέψει πάνω από 2000 ναυτικά μίλια. Επίσης οι οδηγίες φροντίδας και καθαρισμού έχουν τόση πλάκα! "...αν τίποτα από τα παραπάνω δεν λειτουργήσει ρωτήστε την κοντινότερη μανούλα".

A friend has asked me to make something for her friend who loves Vespa!

So, I've made her this little wallet. I'm sure she's going to love it!

I was excited because I love it too, especially the vintage models.

My grandfather used to ride a red Vespa and I always liked to ride with him.

My bo-boy rides a golden Vespa too, just a newer version and his father had also a green Vespa.

Yes, WE ALL LOVE Vespa!

The whole universe on a purse

A friend of mine has asked me to make her a little purse but a little different from whatever I have made before. She wanted details of felt, buttons and embroidery. I've made her a sketch and after we've discussed all the details I got to work. 

Μια φίλη μου μου ζήτησε να της φτιάξω ένα πορτοφολάκι αλλά λίγο διαφορετικό σε σχέση με ότι έχω φτιάξει μέχρι στιγμής. Ήθελε λεπτομέρειες από τσόχα, κουμπιά και κέντημα. Της ζωγράφισα ένα προσχέδιο και αφού καταλήξαμε σε όλες τις λεπτομέρειες έπιασα δουλειά.

I had another special order. This time my friend Alekos, who is a professional DJ, wanted a special bag to carry his headphones and other work related essentials, so I couldn't refuse to make him something unique.

Collaboration with Walk In Closet

I'm here to announce some really exciting news (for me, at least)! I'm starting a new collaboration with a shop here in Corfu. Walk In Closet is a cute little shop filled with handmade creations from independent designers such as Madame Shou Shou, Anna K, Maslinda Designs and new ones are added each day. So, I felt really honored when its owner, Eleftheria, asked me to make her some purses exclusively  for Walk In Closet.

Είμαι εδώ για να ανακοινώσω κάποια πολύ ευχάριστα νέα (τουλάχιστον για'μένα)1 Ξεκινάω μια καινούρια συνεργασία με ένα μαγαζί εδώ στην Κέρκυρα. Το Walk In Closet είναι ένα μικρό μαγαζάκι γεμάτο με χειροποίητες δημιουργίες από ανεξάρτητους σχεδιαστές όπως  Madame Shou Shou, Anna K, Maslinda Designs και κινούριοι προστείθενται κάθε μέρα. Something Special...

I've made something special for my mom. Although I'm against smoking and I've tried to convince her too many times to quit it, now that she's started using tobacco instead of cigarettes, I've made her a little pouch so that she'd carry all of her stuff with her in style. I chose a photo of Monica Bellucci as Malèna, a great movie that if you haven't seen it you should!

 Έφτιαξα κάτι ιδιαίτερο για τη μαμά μου. Αν και είμαι κατά του καπνίσματος και έχω προσπαθήσει πάρα πολλές φορές να την πείσω να το κόψει, τώρα που άρχισε να χρησιμοποιεί καπνό αντί για τσιγάρα, της έφτιαξα ένα μικρό τσαντάκι για να κουβαλάει όλα τις τα πραγματάκια με στυλ. Διάλεξα μια φωτογραφία της Monica Bellucci από την ταινία Malèna, αν δεν την έχετε δει πρέπει να την δείτε.

Stylish "Great Divas"

I know I've been away for a while but I've been creating like crazy around here. All kinds of new ideas are popping through my head and I'm trying to catch up with them while fighting the unbearable heat! We're talking about real HOT these days!

Also, a friend of mine and her husband (he's an artist, you should see his work,. He's AMAZING!) are opening an Arts & Crafts Workshop and they'll have also a place where independent artist could sell their work. I'll participate too, so these are really exciting news!

I have also prepared some others things to show you but they are still unfinished. :-( In time...

For now, let me show you a new line of Bags and purses. Great, stylish Divas of the past in some of their greatest photos, plus some of their most memorable quotes. I find this kind of fun and interesting, don't you think?

Το ξέρω ότι λείπω καιρό αλλά βρισκόμουν σε φάση δημιουργίας. Ένα σωρό ιδέες σκάνε στο μυαλό μου κι εγώ προσπαθώ να τις προλάβω και να τις βάλω σε μια σειρά καθώς παλεύω με την ανυπόφορη ζέστη! Μιλάμε για ΚΑΥΣΩΝΑ τις τελευταίες μέρες!

Επίσης, μια φίλη μου και ο άντρας της (είναι καλλιτέχνης, πρέπει να δείτε τη δουλειά του. Είναι ΦΑΝΤΑΣΤΙΚΟΣ!) ανοίγουν ένα Arts & Crafts Workshop και θα έχουν επίσης έναν χώρο όπου θα μπορούν ανεξάρτητοι καλλιτέχνες και δημιουργεί να πουλάνε τα έργα τους. Θα συμμετέχω κι εγώ, άρα είναι και αυτά συναρπαστικά νέα!

Έχω ετοιμάσει και διάφορα άλλα πράγματα να σας δείξω αλλά μερικά δεν τα έχω τελειώσει ακόμα. :-( Εν καιρώ...
