My Burned Knitted Coat Salvation

Hello again!

I hope everyone had a wonderful New Year's Eve and may 2014 brings to all of us good health, lots of love and happiness and everything else that our hearts desire.

Now that I'm back from Berlin, I'd like to show you a little makeover that I did on one of my favorite coats. That way you can see that nothing should be declared RUINED until you have tried everything. ;-)

Ελπίζω όλοι σας να περάσατε όμορφα την Παραμονή Πρωτοχρονιάς και μακάρι το 2014 να φέρει σε όλους μας υγεία, πολλή αγάπη και ευτυχία και ότι άλλο επιθυμεί η καρδιά μας.

Τώρα που επέστρεψα από το Βερολίνο, ήθελα να σας δείξω μια μικρή μετατροπή που έκανα σε ένα από τα αγαπημένα μου παλτό-πουλόβερ. Με αυτόν τον τρόπο θα δείτε κι εσείς ότι τίποτα δεν θα πρέπει να θεωρείται ΚΑΤΕΣΤΡΑΜΜΕΝΟ μέχρι να έχετε δοκιμάσει τα πάντα. ;-)

You see, I have this woollen coat that's really warm. It has a faux fur lining and its furry turtle neck it's perfect for freezing days, because you can hide your face inside. As you can understand, it was perfect for December in Berlin. Only there was this problem. Recently I had forgot it hanging for a few seconds near a burning stove and... you can imagine the rest. But I HAD to take it with me, so I had to do something about it.

Βλέπετε, έχω αυτό το μάλλινο παλτό-πουλόβερ που είναι πάρα πολύ ζεστό. Είναι επενδυμένο εσωτερικά με ψεύτικη γούνα και ο τεράστιος γούνινος γιακάς του είναι τέλειος για τις πολύ κρύες μέρες γιατί μπορείς να χώσεις όλο σου το πρόσωπο μέσα. όπως καταλαβαίνεται, ήταν ιδανικό για Δεκέμβρη στο Βερολίνο. Μόνο που υπήρχε ένα πρόβλημα. Πρόσφατα το είχα ξεχάσει κρεμασμένο σε μια καρέκλα για λίγα δευτερόλεπτα δίπλα σε μια αναμμένη σόμπα και... μπορείτε να φανταστείτε την συνέχεια. Αλλά ΕΠΡΕΠΕ να το πάρω μαζί μου, έτσι έπρεπε να κάνω κάτι γι'αυτό.

-light bulb!- Some time ago I had bought two crochet and fabric appliques just to use them SOMEDAY. They were perfect. I just teared up a couple of crochet pieces and sew them on the burned pieces of the coat (on the right bottom arm, where the bigger burn was and on the lower right bottom behind). For a little balance I also sew a piece on the left arm and my new coat was ready to keep me warm in the cold days of Berlin, in style. :-)
-φαεινή ιδέα!- Πριν αρκετό καιρό είχα αγοράσει 2 έτοιμα μοτίβα απλά για να τα χρησιμοποιήσω ΚΑΠΟΙΑ ΣΤΙΓΜΗ. Ήταν τέλεια. Απλά ξήλωσα μερικά από τα πλεκτά κομμάτια και τα έραψα πάνω στα καμμένα σημεία. Το πουλοβεράκι μου ανανεώθηκε και ήταν έτοιμο για να με κρατήσει ζεστή τις κρύες μέρες του Βερολίνου.

Yes, that coat makes me look really chubby

(considering the extra layers inside),

but it's super warm, so I don't mind!

Ναι, αυτό το πουλόβερ με κάνει να δείχνω σαν μπόγος

(αν υπολογίσουμε και τα έξτρα ρούχα από μέσα), 

αλλά είναι τόσο ζεστό που δεν με νοιάζει!

Ideas For Handmade Gifts

No, this isn't a blog all about sewing but this is all I've been doing lately. It seems that every now and then I have a new obsession. Be patient, maybe it'll pass... :-)

Όχι, αυτό το blog δεν είναι μόνο για ράψιμο, αλλά αυτό είναι το μόνο που κάνω τελευταία. Φαίνεται πως κάθε τόσο έχω και μια καινούρια εμμονή. Κάντε υπομονή, μπορεί να μου περάσει... :-)

So here are my new creations:

Να οι καινούριες μου δημιουργίες:

 Little mouse coin purse key chain. (that's a long title!)

I've used this tutorial, but since it's in Chinese (literally!)

I've improvised a little with double faced sewn fabric and made my version with key chain.

Ποντικάκι πορτοφολάκι-μπρελόκ. (μεγάλος τίτλος!)

Χρησιμοποίησα αυτό το tutorial, αλλά μιας και είναι στα Κινέζικα (κυριολεκτικά!)

αυτοσχεδίασα λιγάκι με διπλής όψης ραμμένο ύφασμα

και έκανα την δική μου εκδοχή σε μπρελόκ.

 Baby bibs. I've used a bib as a pattern.

I think they are cute.

Σαλιάρες. Χρησιμοποίησα μια σαλιάρα για πατρόν.

Νομίζω ότι είναι χαριτωμένες.

 Hand/ neck/ or whatever warmers.

Little fabric pillows, filled with rice or beans.

Put them in the microwave for 30 sec or on a radiator and

you can feel their warmth for at least 30 minutes.

I've tried it, it's SOOOO COOOL!!!

(they can be used in the freezer too ;-) )

Θερμοφόρα χεριών/ λαιμού/ ή οποιουδποτε άλλου σημείου θέλετε.

Μικρά υφασμάτινα μαξιλαράκια, γεμισμένα με ρύζι ή φασόλια.

Βάλτε τα για 30 δευτ. στον φούρνο μικροκυμάτων ή πάνω σε ένα καλοριφέρ

και θα νιώσετε την ζεστασιά τους για τουλάχιστον μισή ώρα.

Το δοκίμασα και είναι ΤΟΟΟΣΟΟΟ ΤΕΕΕΛΕΙΟ!!!

(μπορούν να χρησιμοποιηθούν και στην κατάψυξη ;-) )

 Sleeping masks. Inspired by this, although in the end

I've made my own pattern.

It's not so difficult if you know how to draw.

They are fun. 

I should make more of them because there are

so many different ways to decorate them!

Μάσκες ύπνου. Εμπνευσμένες από εδώ, αν και στο τέλος έφτιαξα δικό μου πατρόν.

Δεν είναι δύσκολο αν ξέρετε να σχεδιάζετε έστω και λίγο.

Έχουν πλάκα. 

Νομίζω πως πρέπει να φτιάξω και άλλες από αυτές γιατί

υπάρχουν τοσο διαφορετικοί τρόποι για να τις διακοσμήσεις.

Υφασμάτινα σουβέρ σε σχήμα καρδιάς δύο όψεων.

and another cute dog plush. Better this time.

και ακόμη ένα σκυλάκι. Καλύτερο αυτή τη φορά.

I want to thank the existence of Pinterest because through it I've come across so many great new blogs and crafting ideas and now I want to try EVERYTHING!!!

What I've been up to...

I'm going through a "sewing period"! Practice makes perfection, right? Well, I've decided to be perfect -or at least close to perfect- at sewing. And here's what I've been making the past few days:

Περνάω μια "περίοδο ραπτικής"! Η πρακτική φέρνει την τελειότητα, σωστά; Ε, λοιπόν αποφάσισα να γίνω τέλεια - ή τουλάχιστον να πλησιάσω στην τελειότητα- στο ράψιμο. Και εδώ είναι κάποια πραγματάκια που έφτιαξα τις τελευταίες μέρες:

σαν αυτές που είχα ξαναφτιάξει εδώ.

 Oven mittens

Γάντια κουζίνας

After two complete disasters (I kept making the thumb too narrow)

I have finally managed to make two sufficient oven mittens.

The thumb still has its problems, but overall they are cute.

Μετά από δύο ολοκληρωτικές καταστροφές (έκανα συνέχεια τον αντίχειρα πολύ στενό)

τελικά κατάφερα να φτιάξω δύο ικανοποιητικά γάντια κουζίνας.

Ο αντίχειρας έχει ακόμη κάποια προβλήματα, αλλά

σε γενικές γραμμές είναι χαριτωμένα.

 Fabric Bow Bracelets.

I've seen something like this made of leather and

I thought I should try to make it with fabric.

I think they are cute, although a couple are a little bit small

for my wrist but I have a large wrist anyway.

Βραχιόλια Υφασμάτινοι Φιόγκοι.

Είχα δει κάτι παρόμοιο φτιαγμένο από δέρμα και

σκέφτηκα να το δοκιμάσω και με ύφασμα.

Πιστεύω ότι είναι χαριτωμένα, αν και μερικά βγήκαν λίγο μικρά

για τον καρπό μου αλλά έτσι κι αλλιώς έχω αρκετά φαρδύ καρπό.

And finally, I've been able to manage the frustration with the bias tape.

At Scientific Seamstress Blog I've found a Printable Bias Tape Maker

and I think it's the best invention! So simple to make and piece of cake to use!

Oh, and I've finally learned how to use bias tape.

So much easier than I thought!

Και τέλος, κατάφερα να νικήσω την μάχη μου με το ρέλι.

Στο  Scientific Seamstress Blog βρήκα ένα  Printable Bias Tape Maker

και πιστεύω ότι είναι η καλύτερη εφεύρεση!

Τόσο απλό στην κατασκευή του και τόσο εύκολο στη χρήση!

Α, και επιτέλους κατάφερα να μάθω πώς ράβεται το ρέλι.

Πιο εύκολο από ότι νόμιζα!

Measuring Tape Headband

I came across a tutorial the other day about a Measuring Tape Headband. I've seen around many projects that are made with measuring tapes and I've always wanted to try something like it, but I just couldn't find the time (or I didn't have some measuring tape handy). This time I did it! It's so easy and super fun but I've also sewn the edges for extra strength. I think I'm going to make more of these, one in every color measuring tape that I can find!

Yes, I have also a new hair cut,

although it looks awful in this photo.

Ναι, έχω και καινούριο κούρεμα,

αν και δείχνει απαίσιο σε αυτή τη φωτογραφία.

Βρήκα ένα tutorial τις προάλλες για μια Κορδέλα για τα μαλλιά Φτιαγμένη Από Μεζούρα. Έχω δει πολλές δημιουρίες φτιαγμένες από μεζούρες και πάντα ήθελα να δοκιμάσω κάτι τέτοιο, αλλά δεν έβρισκα τον χρόνο (ή δεν είχα καμμιά μεζούρα πρόχειρη). Αυτή τη φορά τα κατάφερα! Είναι τόσο απλή και εύκολη αλλά εγώ την έραψα στις άκρες για καλύτερη αντοχή. Νομίζω πως θα φτιάξω κι άλλες από αυτές, μια από κάθε χρώμα μεζούρα που θα βρω!

My Old - New Creation

Something that I've made but I haven't post it here. I don't know how it has slipped my mind. Fancy wallets made with clear plastic oilcloth and decorated with glitter, beads, sequins, pieces of paper e.t.c.

I have taken them with me to the Christmas Festival and now are in my shop. I haven't put them in my Etsy Shop yet, although I should have.

I wanted to show you a little preview of the things that I'm taking with me to the Two Days Christmas Festival.
